RIT Biotech follows the ALARA principle to all the staffs for radiation related operations and productions.
As low as reasonably achievable (ALARA) is a principle of radioprotection stating that whenever ionizing radiation has to be applied to humans, animals or materials exposure should be as low as reasonably achievable. It is fundamental to the principle of radiation protection.
ALARA principle is our commitment for all of our relevant staffs who work for our radiopharmacy and logistic services. In order to maintain radiation doses as low as possible, all staffs should be instructed by the management to follow these 3 major principles:
-
Time – Minimize the time of exposure;
-
Distance – Increase distance between staff's body and radiation sources;
-
Shielding – Install and provide necessary radiation shielding for operations and productions such as lead cabinet, lead container and lead manipulating tools in order to keep the working environment in at a safe level.
Besides, pregnant workers should be forbidden to work in the radiation environment.
Adhering to ALARA, RIT Biotech will strictly follow the Hong Kong Radiation Ordinance CAP. 303, regarding to the radiation exposure and helps keep our staff healthy and safe.
